THE inaugural Marnpi Festival took over Oxide Street on Saturday afternoon, with live music by Nancy Bates, free bush tucker, and the opening of two next exhibitions. Badger Bates with his grandson Baaka opened their exhibition at Slag Heap Projects, and across the road Anthony Hayward exhibited his work at the Old Vic Studio Gallery. Premier Tyres was turned into a temporary festival site, with a makeshift stage assembled for speakers and performances. More than 100 people travelled down to take part in the celebration of art, culture, storytelling and community.
