BROKEN Hill's first cemetery was located in Lane Street, and interred many who had passed away in the late 1880s, particularly during the typhoid epidemic.
It was later abandoned and a children’s home built on the site.
By 1941, it hadn't been used in 50 years. An article in the Barrier Daily Truth in April wrote with disgust about the state of the cemetery.
