Artistic oasis in the outback

IN the 1980s, The Palace Hotel underwent a transformation that elevated the hotel to it’s now cult status, thanks to the creativity of Indigenous artist Gordon Waye from Port Augusta.

The story goes that then owner Mario Celotto, and Italian immigrant, painted a version of Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus on the ceiling above the staircases.
