BROKEN Hill city councillor Ashley Byrne has resigned, effective immediately, due to work commitments.

Council has contacted the NSW Electoral Commission to begin the process of an election countback to fill Mr Byrne's role.

"We will keep the public updated as this process progresses," it said.
